Kids in the kitchen...Keeping it fun & Safe!

Updated: May 19, 2021

Before I started Noel's Cookies I was a preschool teacher for 15 years. So, although I love to bake, my first love will always be working with children. In the past i've mentioned how important it is to me that children learn the skills to feel confident in the kitchen. Today my children, Erick and Angie, will demonstrate how children of nearly any age can master simple and even complicated culinary skills by making their very own meatloaf.

Erick and Angie have been cooking with me in the kitchen since they were toddlers. They are now 9 and 12, so they have had quite some time to hone their skills. Angie has emerged as our master baker, while Erick has become quite the chef. Check out the slide show below to see some of the dishes they've made!

Remember: Safety first!

When cooking with children it is important to teach them these kitchen safety rules:

  • Always ask an adult for permission before cooking.

  • Wash your hands.

  • Use safety gloves when handling hot items.

  • Practice good knife safety tips.

  • Have fun!
